I wasn't willing to give up tobacco smoke, as smoke is one of my great comforts, but I could no longer afford the $7.50+ price tag on a comparatively small amount of tobacco in a pack of cigarettes, even my favored American Spirit Blacks. I was very disappointed because their pipes are awesome and and believed that their tobacco would be that way too and so far its not. It was cut into thin strips which packed easily and behaved implacable all the way through.

My views are based on smoking about 80gr of this tobacco over about 2 weeks.I was eager to again try this blend as a break to the many cased aromatics offered by Peterson. I'd say this isn't an all day smoke, but much like a nice stout is best enjoyed in a relaxed and peaceful manner at lunchtime or after work. its a nice mix between virginnia and latakia for me i can taste them both. I'm not such a big fan of the much praised Penzance, but that might change as my pallet develops.Old Dublin is a class of its own in the English mixtures world.A smooth and rich tobacco, it is however not very strong in terms of nicotine content.The only downside to it is that it quickly becomes kind of bland, which defies the imagination when considering the mixture's content. On top of it there was a very weird umm, pine(? 'Ol Dublin I can smoke all day, but I really like it after dinner till bedtime. The flavors are just right for me with the smoky latakia, orientals, and virginia for some sweetness. There isn't enought Latakia to satisfy the Lakaia lover, nor enough cavendish for the cavendish lover and the virginia is just plain dull.It's not a bad tobacco, far from you can tell the ingedients are good quality, I just think that the blenders have made the mistake of trying to create a tobacco to suit multiple tatses and I don't think that is possible.In it favour is it's cool burning and very mild nature. Old Dublin provides a subtle sweetness with a nice latikia hit.
A solid performance of English blend when Oriental plays the role based on the platform of Black Cavendish. Nice medium to slightly full English/Oriental flavor and good complexity.
The smell straight off the tobacco is of burnt savoury biscuits & light spice notes. Sore throat,numb tingling tongue.Another one added to my never again list I'm afraid.I'll smoke anything me. I liked it well enough to purchase another tin in the future. All I can say is, there are plenty of better, tastier and more interesting English/Balkan blends waiting for their turns.I'm really enjoy with this tobacco very much. There are nuances to this tobacco that, for me, required a nice, quiet place outdoors in which to contemplate the interplay of this blend. The sweetness of the oriental and/or virginias is really sweet. Therefore, in Brazil, Peterson tobaccos are very expensive.
I pour over the labels of the mason jars and make my selection.At first light it had promise of being quite the tobacco. Worth a try though.This was one of me first real english blends, and I'm glad that it was. The golden virginia is pratically absent until you reach the end of the bowl, and the black cavendish is truly absent (but I think this is a pro); the cyprus latakia it's less smoky and more tasty than the syrian and has that classic liquirice aftertaste, the greek oriental it's probably the more interesting ingredient, and probably the reason of the sporadic presence of strange and unexpected undertones.
My initial opinion of Old Dublin was that of a boring, indistinct smoke, which I attributed to the Cavendish--a tobacco which I assumed had little unique flavor, mostly employed by blenders to stretch out a blend. IMHO it doesn't matter if you are a new pipe smoker or have been puffing for many years, this is one you must try. Old Dublin is a smooth, flavorful smoke. Hein Garbers, South AfricaUpon opening the tin, one is greeted by a very attractive looking tobacco, with a ribbon cut combining shades of Bright Virginia to Black Cavendish tobaccos, & everything in between. I will look for old tins of this, but more than likely will not be purchasing the new tins...To be respectful of the "Irish", I won't call this an english blend. The first taste is latakia, but the other tobaccos soon meld together perfectly, the orientals providing spice (never too hot or harsh) whilst there is an undertone of sweetness provided by the virginia. I think it is a good regular.
It burns easy, stays lit with only one char light, no problem to smoke it down to the bottom.
After a couple of smokes my palet started to open up to the blend.
