I have nothing but good things to say about this pen.
The difference between this and a Pilot EF or SEF is two-fold: One, it is even finer; Two, it is much more consistent in terms of line width. Little touches help the 912 stand out from the more traditionally styled Pilots. Along with daily preras I use, this one sits in my pen bag ready to write.

Does the increased ink flow from the new ebonite feed eliminate the frequent hard starts in normal writing?
I made the mistake of letting others try it and they were so heavy-handed they were tearing paper.

No hard starts, no skipping.
Just thought I'd add my endorsement of FNF and their feeds.
While I could live with the railroading under flex, the hard starts when writing normally I could not when tring to take quick notes.

Given you've done the feed replacement, what is the experience with hard starts?I'm not sure that I had notice much in the way of hard starts before the feed exchange. Gold nib, top-quality finish, unique design, piston filler, and if you’re lucky, available for under £100.
There definitely are no hard starts now.
The nib is a great writer, the build seems durable, the threads are smooth, and the pen’s silhouette is beautiful.
Holding the nib at a higher angle also helps.
The nib is beautiful- lots of spring, great line variation, and surprisingly smooth. I figured Id have time to sort out a nib swap later. Sounds like with an aftermarket ebonite feed it gets even better. And, of course, that supremely unadorned Falcon nib.
It isn't as smooth as, say, a broad nib, but you shouldn't expect that.
In fact, it might just be my favourite pen.

Glorious.
It gives good line variation, but normal writing requires an extremely soft touch on paper to minimize hard starts. I'm going to have mine reground to a needlepoint soon.Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, I personally think the FA nib needs to be finer.
